The Vision of Our Future

“Do not train children to learn by force and harshness, but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.”
Plato

We have heard the saying time and time again, “children are our future.”  It has become a cliche and society tends to forget what that really means.  It is our children who are creating the next jobs, our children who are learning or not learning how to be successful (whatever that means) in today’s society.  It is our children who will be the next ones to lead a country into what I hope to be a better world.  Those are huge responsibilities and expectations for our children, most of who were born in the year 2000 and after, when wars are prevalent, our debt ceiling has been reached and educational spending is NOT the priority.

As parents who are raising children in a society filled with social media, instant gratification,  consumerism, a failing education system that sets developmentally inappropriate expectations for our children and places “blame” on parents for not doing enough, how CAN we guide the success of our children?  It may seem like a daunting task, but we have the ability to guide our children down a path of individualism, of personal success and guide them to think for themselves.

Those who know me are aware about my passion for children, for developmentally appropriate education, for non-violent and empathetic communication and parenting with our children, and for treating our children with the same respect we hope to be given.  The process of learning these practices is continuous and begins as soon as a mommy and daddy get pregnant.  My passion for children and their development has lead me down different paths including training, curriculum development, observation and guidance in homes and schools, working with children and families of children with developmental delays, assisting families with navigating the public school system, as well as a number of consulting jobs.

My goal and belief is that every child has the ability to be successful in his or her environment, utilizing his or her set of individual skills.  And I believe that parents, once given the tools and opportunity to become attuned to their child’s personal needs, can guide their children towards that personal success.  Remember, the success of our children is not predicated on the success WE (as parents) want for them. It is predicated on your child growing, learning, being challenged, heard and accepted in the path and strengths that are in THEM.

This blog will post articles on guiding your children to become individuals, on how to become an open parent, a parent who is able to connect with their child and ACCEPT their child.  I will also give techniques and suggestions on specific ways to handle situations.  Specific questions or topics can always be suggested.  I am also available to  for a consultation either in home, at school, at a park or where ever feels most comfortable for your child.  You can contact me for more details.

Enjoy the blog  and enjoy the journey of getting to know your child in a way that will allow you to guide them to success!
